Vance Joseph
“I’m excited. I’m also proud and humbled to be the next Broncos next coach.
“It’s a football team that’s not broken, it’s a great job.
“Mr. (Pat) Bowlen has set a standard of winning. It’s a great place, it’s a great town to work in. It’s about winning. That’s my goal, to win.
“My philosophy is this, guys. (Looking at players in front row) Just come to work. It starts with work, we can’t forget that. To make every meeting, every rep, a winning performance. That’s our first order of business, to come to work.
“This job won’t be a rebuild. Most jobs that are open are a rebuild. It’s a re-boot.”
On his offensive philosophy: “I want an offense that’s attacking..I want an offense with swagger, I want an offense that’s up-tempo.”
On calling defensive signals: “I would prefer not to call plays.”
On his young quarterbacks, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. “It’s going to be an open competition. Trevor had a fine year. He’s smart with the ball. Paxton’s a big strong guy with a big arm.”
On hiring an offensive coordinator: “It’s a work in progress.”
He later added that he hasn’t met with Mike McCoy yet, but knows him and would like to meet with him to talk about the position. He said he’s a great play-caller.
On hiring a staff: “Hopefully within a week, week-and-a-half…I am not rushed.”
General manager John Elway
“When we talk about going through this search…we’ve obviously had a lot of success the last six years.
“This team is less than a year removed from a world championship. So it was very important to find someone who can fit the culture we had…Vance has that.
“The leadership qualities that he has are tremendous.
“He knows our weaknesses, he knows our strengths. He’s very smart, he’s an ex-quarterback.
“Anywhere he’s been he’s had a great relationship. Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati, Adam Gase in Miami. This job won’t be too big for him.
“He’s got a good feel for what he wants offensively having been on the defensive side.”
